Module 1: Assessment
The first module of the PuP program aims to assist parents understand the diverse problems they face and how these problems act to make parenting difficult. In doing this a shared understanding of the family's current concerns, strengths and areas of difficulty is developed. This information is used to decide on priority target areas for change.
The assessment is seen as part of the treatment process. It is
helpful for parents to understand that problems and stressors can
drain their coping resources. The assessment involves the parent
and therapist working together to find ways of addressing problems,
eliminating sources of stress, and working with existing
strengths.
