Training and Supervision
In order to use the PUP program in clinical settings, a clincian is required to have training and clinical supervision in the PUP model. This will lead to accreditation as a PUP therapist. Further information can be obtained from the PUP program directors Sharon Dawe (s.dawe@griffith.edu.au) or Paul Harnett (p.harnett@psy.uq.edu.au).
The training and clinical supervision program involves a combination of training and clinical supervision that adds up to 30 hours. Therapists receive instruction in the PUP model and theoretical background and are then required to take on cases to receive further clinical supervision in program implimentation. The cost of the training and clinical supervision can be negotiated on a case by case basis as cost will be determined by the number of therapists to receive training and clinical supervision. An approximate indication of cost is $2,500 per clinican (excluding travel) where clinical supervision is conducted in pairs and includes a combination of telephone and face-to-face clinical supervision.
To receive accreditation as a PUP Therapist a clinician must:-
- complete the PUP training and clinical supervision process as negotiated with the PUP program directors
- work with a minimum of 4 families for 8 to 12 intervention sessions.
To receive accreditation as a PUP Clinical Supervisor a clinicain must:-
- be an accreditated PUP Therapist
- provide clinical supervision to at least 1 clinical staff
- receive a minimum of 5 hours clinical supervision on their supervision
- demonstrate competancy as a clinical supervisor by at least one video taped supervision session accompanied by a review the clinical supervision session
To receive accreditation as a PUP Trainer a clinician must:-
- be an accreditated PUP Therapist
- complete the PUP train the trainer program
- conduct the PUP intensive two day training session with an accredited PUP trainer
Competancy based accreditation for senior clinicians
It is probable that senior clinicians who wish to use the PUP program already have experience in many of the PUP program components. In this case an expedited accrediation process is possible. This can be discussed on a case by case basis with the PUP program directors.
All PUP training must be conducted under the auspices of PUP.
